Generations of singers and supporters: The McMullin Family

Generations of singers and supporters: The McMullin Family
August 1, 2024 Girls from Oz

‘Anna and I believe that Lesley would be very happy to know that the foundation we created in her name continues to support the Australian Girls Choir in their Girls from Oz program’ – Jean McMullin

The Lesley McMullin Foundation was established in memory of Lesley McMullin by her daughter, Jean, and grandchildren, Anna, Sara and Lotta.

This year Anna Kalla, one of the Foundation’s Directors and Australian Girls Choir Alumni, has nominated Girls from Oz as a recipient of the Foundation’s generous support to contribute to the g-oz 2024 Giving Circle Campaign.

The Giving Circle Campaign’s fundraising goal of $100,000 was reached and surpassed with the final tally totalling $105,230.

This would not have been possible without the incredible backing of both new and continuing g-oz donors and, for six years, The Lesley McMullin Foundation has been one of our committed supporters.

A shared passion for singing across generations and a belief in the power of performing arts is what leads the Lesley McMullin Foundation to be long-time supporters of Girls from Oz.

Lesley’s family tradition included piano lessons and singing four part harmony with her sisters and parents; this in turn led to singing with her daughter Jean. The joy of singing saw Jean enrol her three daughters, Anna, Sara and Lotta, in the Australian Girls Choir when they moved here from Norway. Anna, in particular, thrived in her time with the AGC and was a section leader in the Performing Choir as well as a confident public speaker.

Nicole Muir AM, g-oz Chair and ASPA CEO has fond memories of Anna as a chorister.

‘Girls from Oz is grateful that, through Lesley’s foundation, the McMullin/Kalla family supports the growth and development of our g-oz girls.  We sincerely appreciate their view that g-oz provides excellent music education and enables girls to grow life skills such as confidence, determination, self-respect and communication.’ – Nicole Muir AM

Girls from Oz extends a heartfelt thank you to The Lesley McMullin Foundation and the McMullin/Kalla families for their generous support and belief in our work.
