Australian Girls Choir, Founder (1984 – 2025)
In 1984, at the age of 55 and following a distinguished 30-year career in music and drama education, Judith founded the Australian Girls Choir with the belief that every child can learn to sing with encouragement and training.
More than two decades later in 2006, Judith, together with her daughter Jane Curphey and ASPA CEO Nicole Muir AM, began discussing how to make high-quality performing arts experiences accessible to more young people across Australia. From these shared hopes and aspirations, Girls from Oz was born and continues to thrive today.
Judith’s dedication to Girls from Oz, as both Co-Founder and Board Member, has helped the organisation reach over 3,000 girls living in remote communities across Australia. Through her vision and commitment, these girls have been provided with enriching opportunities to grow and flourish through performing arts education, performance and travel experiences on their journey to success.
Judith will be remembered for her determination, honesty and conviction, and for the profound impact she has had on generations of Australian girls. Her legacy will continue to inspire and empower young people for years to come.
