We believe that more can be done to improve education and employment outcomes for students in remote Australia, particularly Aboriginal girls and young women.
The Girls from Oz (g-oz) program, uses a tried and tested performing arts engagement model developed over 30 years by the Australian School of Performing Arts, to engage and re-engage females living in some of the most at-risk communities in Australia.
“I am 100% behind g-oz. It gives them opportunity to develop not just in sport, not just in art, but it helps them develop holistically as young women and gives them another avenue to develop their own life.”
Mysti Bedford-McGintyg-oz Participant - Halls Creek District High School
“This week I really enjoyed g-oz. G-oz makes me feel very happy, strong and proud of who I am."

“Girls from Oz does potent, targeted, nuanced and intelligent work. It knows if you educate a girl, you educate a community.”

“In a world where we tend to park the ambulances at the bottom of the cliff and pour money into pick-up-the-pieces services, donating to Girls from Oz is like putting safety rails at the top of the cliff. It’s intelligent philanthropy.”
Dame Quentin Bryce AD CVOg-oz Patron
“Girls from Oz is utterly inspiring – it builds talent, confidence and self discipline in the girls who thrive through involvement in the program.”
Hear from six more of the Australian Girls Choir choristers travelling to Lockhart River in Far North Queensland for g-oz`s third Reverse Travel Program, Illuminating Lockhart, and what they are most looking forward to! 😊
"Sharing my love of the performing arts with the girls of all ages is really special to me and I can`t wait to meet everyone and make new friends. I am really looking forward to improving my understanding of the way [that] the girls live... and deepening my connection to Country through this incredible opportunity." - Anastasia Landsberg (AGC QLD)
This month during National Reconciliation Week (27 May - 3 June), g-oz participants will engage in a cross-cultural and educational exchange with a week-long program at Lockhart River situated on Queensland`s Cape York Peninsula. Twelve AGC girls and their Lockhart host sisters will enjoy a dynamic performing arts program and engage in two-way learning that will enrich their understanding of each other`s cultures and experiences.
Our week in Bidyadanga has come to an end - Shelley, Rachel and Alice had so much fun sharing music and dance (and lots of smiles, laughs, connections, new experiences and incredible sunsets!) with the wonderful students, staff and community. We can’t wait to see everyone again in Term 3!

"On this tour, I hope to learn not only more about music, but also about our wonderful country and Indigenous culture..." - Chloe Hamilton (AGC VIC)

Our final day in Bidgy saw some of the senior girls step into a leadership role with the younger classes. We loved seeing the care and confidence in their leadership.
