Brenda has had a long career in education with a particular commitment to educational equity and community engagement. Her background is in the social sciences, school and community education and teacher education. Brenda is widely published and has led research and development local and international partnerships often with Indigenous Australian leaders and communities to enhance educational and social experiences for young people. She has lived and working in Queensland, Western Australia, New South Wales and Victoria as as well as the US.
Brenda is currently Vice-President and Executive Dean Arts and Education at Deakin University. The Faculty includes the Institute of Koorie Education, School of Communication and Creative Arts, School of Education, and the School of Humanities and Social Sciences. At Deakin Brenda has led the development of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Higher Education Agenda 2016-2020, and chaired the national Excellence in Research Australia evaluation for the Education and Human Studies disciplines in 2015 and 2018 for the Australian Research Council. She is delighted to be Deputy Chair of the Girls from Oz Board.
