2016 marks the sixth year of the g-oz travel program and we were delighted this year to offer the opportunity to participate to 24 girls from girls from across our three program locations. Eight girls from Halls Creek and six girls from Lockhart River travelled to Brisbane, and eight girls from Carnarvon travelled to Sydney. During two busy weeks of educational activities and performances, some highlights included a visit to Google’s Sydney office, an interactive experience at The Cube at Queensland University of Technology, an afternoon tea with Girls from Oz Patron, Quentin Bryce AD CVO, and attending the musicals Aladdin and Matilda! The trips culminated with performances alongside the Australian Girls Choir (AGC) choristers at the Brisbane and Sydney Annual Concerts.

We sincerely thank the AGC families who were incredibly warm and generous hosts to the g-oz girls, providing everything from delicious meals to cultural experiences. Many of the girls reported that being hosted was the highlight of the trip for them because they’d never experienced such kindness from people they didn’t know. Whilst the administration of our travel programs is funded entirely by g-oz program grants, we would like to thank the school communities in Carnarvon, Halls Creek and Lockhart River for their financial contribution, and the many organisations in Sydney and Brisbane who offered amazing experiences for the girls.
